Duchess Kate pays a surprise visit to primary school in jeans

We really are being very lucky with Kate news and photos lately and today was no exception. It has been widely reported that Duchess Kate has been making private visits to charities in order to decide where she would like to work with. Last week the Duchess of Cambridge made a surprise visit to an art charity center in an inner London primary school.

Unfortunately the photo isn't wonderful quality as it was taken on a parents mobile phone. However we can see that Kate chose to dress casually wearing jeans a turtle neck sweater and black boots. Obviously the Duchess wanted to keep a low profile for her informal meeting in order to learn more about the organisation. The pupils at the school were not entirely convinced with one little girl saying "She doesn't look like a princess. Where's her dress". :)

A local woman who was collecting her brother said

"Kate was dressed down in a jeans and a jumper. The children had been told by the headmaster Mr Miller and the deputy headmaster Mr Murphy that a real life Princess was coming to the school. They were so excited and were all told to wait in the car park to see her. When I got there, some of the children were so tired they were sitting on the ground. When she came out of the art room after the visit, Mr Miller walked her to her car. She posed for a picture and waved at the children before she left".

The pupils were expecting to see Kate dressed like one of their favourite Disney princesses. :)

As a History of Art graduate Duchess Kate would be the perfect patron of 'The Art Room' which is based in Oxford but has a London branch at the Robert Blair primary school. The Art Room works with children to increase their confidence and self esteem through art. If interested you can donate here. Access to Art can open a door for so many children and unfortunately funding is a definite problem. I was touched to see one pupil said

'I would like to live at the Art room and have my friends over and eat things'.

A spokesman said

" The Duchess of Cambridge paid a private visit to The Art Room in order to find out more about what we do and gain a wider experience of the work within this sector. The Art Room wrote to her and caught her eye".

It will certainly be interesting to see if Kate chooses to support The Art Room. From what I could see in the photo she appeared to be enjoying herself and by making these visits privately she can relax and make an informed decision. It has also been announced that Kate's name wont be added to the Prince William and Prince Harry foundation even though she has agreed to become one of its patrons in case her popularity overshadows the charities.

Duchess Kate painted with children in a school during the Royal tour. I think Art is a serious love of hers and we will see that in her charitable choices.

William and Kate to visit California!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit California in July after their tour of Canada. St James's palace have confirmed. They are expected to be welcomed by governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, The couple will travel to the west coast from July 8th-10th.  Kate has never been to the USA before, no doubt this will be exciting for the couple as it is also William's first official visit there.  Meanwhile the couple are preparing for their trip to Canada.

The Queen, whose head appears on coins in the country, visited Canada last July and pronounced it "good to be home" as she embarked on her 22nd official visit to the country. She also visited Ottawa for the country's birthday.
Next year the couple face being separated for two and a half months if the RAF posts him 8,000 miles away in the Falkland Islands.
It is understood that plans are being drawn up to send Prince William to the South Atlantic next year as a Sea King search and rescue helicopter pilot.
The Prince would be on the islands during the 30th anniversary commemorations for the Falklands conflict, when his uncle the Duke of York flew a Sea King in combat operations.
Sending such a high-profile member of the Royal family to the islands, especially during an anniversary year, is likely to antagonise Argentina, which continues to assert a territorial claim to the islands despite defeat in 1982.
Speculation two years ago that the Prince could be sent to the Falklands prompted condemnation from Argentina's foreign minister, Jorge Taina.
The move would be the first lengthy separation for the royal couple since their marriage in London last week.
Earlier this week the Duke and Duchess spent their first night on Anglesey as a married couple. The island cottage will be their marital home until 2013.
St James's Palace refused to confirm where the couple, who have postponed their honeymoon, spent the weekend.
The Prince has made it clear that he wants to be treated as any other officer in the Armed Forces, including serving on overseas operations.
He accepts that his position as a future king makes it highly unlikely he could serve on the front line in a war zone as his brother, Prince Harry, did in Afghanistan three years ago.

William and Kate Spend Easter in Scotland, Upcoming Plans + More

William and Kate spent their first Easter as a married couple with Prince Charles and Camilla in Scotland. The foursome attended a church service in Crathie Kirk, a small parish church in the village of Crathie. A Royal aide said 'It was a beautiful service. Afterwards, they were back at Balmoral for Sunday lunch'. A very low quality photo of the Royals leaving the service was taken. Duchess Kate appears to be wearing a plum coat.

Crathie Kirk is known for being a regular place of worship for the Royal family when they are holidaying in the nearby Balmoral. The British Royal family attended the Sunday service at the Church after the death of Princess Diana on the morning of August 31 1997. The public were shocked and appalled that Diana was not mentioned at the service.

I was initially surprised William and Kate chose not to attend the annual service with Her Majesty at Windsor. No doubt they enjoyed a private weekend with Charles and Camilla at the scenic Balmoral.

It does seem like quite a while since Kate's last engagement, however we are in for a treat this month. The always informative Royal Reporter Richard Palmer revealed William and Kate are expected to have three engagements later this month. We should hear details shortly. He also tweeted that Kate is aiming to choose four new patronages by early next year. Looking forward to the upcoming engagements!

As someone who is extremely close with my sisters, I've always admired the bond Kate and Pippa share. Despite Kate's new role as a Royal, spending time with Pippa is obviously a major priority. Kate is regularly seen visiting her old flat in Chelsea for lunch with Pippa. She most recently spotted visiting her younger sister last week after returning from France. A source said

"Kate drives over and parks outside and brings her two security guards with her. Pippa likes to have her sister over. They had lunch last week just after they got back from Skiing in France".

Another cover for Kate this week. Lovely to see her in the centre amongst the Hollywood elite!

Duchess Kate takes a shopping trip to Peter Jones UPDATED

Yesterday Duchess Kate was spotted shopping at a Peter Jones store in London. The home goods store is part of the John Lewis chain, A favourite of Kate's. She stocked up on essentials for Kensington Palace including pillows, bed linen and cutlery and other kitchen items. She left the store carrying her own shopping bags escorted by a security guard. They left in a range rover. Coincidentally the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge just donated a range rover given to them as a wedding present to Mountain rescue!

Duchess Kate wore light blue skinny jeans, her black ballet shoes, I believe they are her London Sole ones and a loose fitting cream peasant top. Duchess Kate wore her hair down with sunglasses. We rarely see Kate photographed wearing sunglasses. Would love to have seen the top from the front but from what I can see it looks quite interesting. Perhaps Whistles or Reiss? She always pulls off casual chic excellently and looks just like any other young wife out shopping.

The photos were taken mostly from behind. I imagine the photographer didn't want to be too intrusive or to interfere with her day. It is excellent to see photographers respecting Kate's privacy. Today is Pippa's 28th birthday, (Happy Birthday Pippa :)) perhaps Kate was out shopping for a gift for her sister? I imagine Pippa will have a family celebration so there may be more photos very soon!

UPDATE: It was confirmed that William and Kate did indeed celebrate Pippa's 28th birthday with her younger sister and Alex Loudon. Unfortunately no photos thus far but I'll keep a look out!
