William and Kate enjoy pre Christmas lunch with the Royals

With less than a week until Christmas day, I think it's safe to assume we are all feeling quite festive. Even the Royal family are getting into the spirit. Earlier today The Queen hosted a pre Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace. Guests included The Cambridges, Prince Harry, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

William and Kate looked excited and happy as they arrived they photographed arriving at the palace. I love that William chose to drive himself instead of using a chauffeur, We can see what appears to be a hat box or a gift in the back of the car.....

Roland Hoskins

As you can see Kate looks stunning (obviously already prepared for tonight's event) The Duchess is wearing a fitted red coat, quite possibly her L.K. Bennett ami. Kate is wearing a black lace top or dress underneath.

The lunch is perhaps an informal beginning to the largest gathering of royals in years, with 27 members of the family attending this year. I'm delighted to see these new photos of Kate looking so happy.

Love their expressions in this one :)

Judging by Kate's hair, I know she is going to look amazing at the Sun Military Awards tonight.

See you in a few hours for the next post :)

Duchess Kate Steps Out in White For Charity Meeting

You wait weeks for a 'Kate Appearance' and then four come along within three days :) Kate joined William in London today to attend a meeting of the Princes' Charities Forum at The Royal Society. To view more photos please visit the Daily Mail article.

Daily Mail/Big Pictures Photo

The Princes' Charities Forum is an initiative started by Prince Harry and Prince William in 2006. The Princes wanted to find a way of bringing together their charitable interests and to explore how they could best lend support to them through working together. Last November Kate attended a meeting for the Forum for the first time. Kate's patronages are also included.

British Monarchy Flickr

The forum meets twice a year gathering all the charities Prince William, Duchess Kate and Prince Harry support. During the two hour meeting the charities share ideas with input from the Royals.

Royal contributor Victoria Arbiter recognised Kate's blouse immediately.

Duchess Kate looked radiant in a white Ted Baker Stardy Bib Detail Blouse. The last season piece is unfortunately sold out. It is described as

"Long sleeved blouse, Front pleat bib detail, Concealed button fastening, Small stand collar, Button fastening on cuffs."

Ted Baker/Asos

I expect Kate wore a skirt with her blouse. Prince William looked dapper in a navy suit and purple tie.

It was an unexpected surprise to see the couple out and about today. They plan to visit friends to reporting attend a wedding before celebrating their anniversary Sunday

Kate sparkles at the Sun Military Awards in strapless McQueen gown

The Cambridges and Prince Harry added a touch of royal glamour on the red carpet tonight for the Sun Military Awards at the Imperial War Museum. The young royals were photographed earlier today arriving for a pre Christmas lunch with The Queen. Despite huge numbers of photographers surrounding the event, Kate never looked more beautiful and appeared to be completely at ease, It's safe to say she is a natural. The event is a celebration of the nations heroes and Kate's presence is no doubt an added bonus for the nominees.

PA

The Sun Military Awards (also known as the Millies) is an annual awards ceremony which honours members of the British Armed Forces. The awards were created by Prince Charles. Categories include 'Best Recruit', 'Life Saver Award' and 'Overcoming Adversity'. Prestigious guests at the event include Prime Minister David Cameron, Kate spent a while chatting with his wife Samantha Cameron.

William, Kate and Harry  presented awards during the event, The Prince's reportedly chose who to present too. To see more photos of Kate presenting the award for 'Most outstanding soldier' click here. A very special moment for the winner.

Prince Harry recently returned from Afghanistan and made a touching speech.

"I am a young army officer, a serving soldier, like my brother, I share many of the same hopes, same aspirations, to go on operations, the same fears, as all who serve our Queen and country"

PA

Judging by Kate's hair and make up earlier today, Her eyebrows look sensational, I knew that we were in for a treat tonight in terms of fashion and as always Kate didn't disappoint. Looking beautiful in a black Alexander McQueen strapless velvet gown, this is one of Kate's defining fashion moments. I'm going to say (after the wedding) this is Kate's best look this year. Originally half of the skirt is sheer however it  was altered for Kate. Despite being 5'10 Kate had to hold the dress up during her walk in. It was available here for €4,270. It is described as

"Velvet is a huge trend for FW11, and Alexander McQueen's black strapless gown is a spectacular way to work it into your evening portfolio. Sweetheart neckline, boned bodice with underwired cups, half scalloped trip at skirt, concealed zip fastening at back".

Looking at Kate's dress from the back, we can see the same concealed zip.

The lovely ladies over at What Kate Wore commented on the similarities between Kate's dress and the black gown Diana wore for her first public engagement in 1981.

I'm sure you all noticed Kate's beautiful, very high, black suede pumps.

We think Kate wore the stylish Jimmy Choos cosmic shoes. (With many thanks to Ashley who swiftly ID'd them)
'The striking closed toe with 120mm heels is available in the softest suede'. The shoes are available for €525 here

Kate's bag is the Pretty Ballerina Velvet Clutch Bag (With thanks to Vera from WKW facebook) The bag has an oversized bow. It is currently out of stock but was on sale for €111.

Aside form the earrings, Kate wore jewellery she received as a wedding gift. The statement diamond and ruby necklace is dazzling. With a bracelet it's the first time we've seen Kate draped in jewels and I think we all agree Kate dazzled tonight.

The trio left the ceremony in high spirits. Tonight is the night Kate came into her own, After the wedding it was her best look this year. I look forward to seeing more looks like this...

Lady in Red Kate Joins Senior Royals for The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant

The Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend officially kicked off with a wonderful display of pomp and pageantry at the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. Over one thousand boats mustered on the River Thames from the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world. The flotilla reportedly measured seven and a half miles from end to end is the largest fleet of ships to be assembled on the Thames in 350 years. The event has been two years in the planning and cost £10 million.

PA
Kate was heard describing the event as 'so exciting'. Crowds lined fourteen miles to catch a glimpse of the royals, reportedly more than the royal wedding. No doubt an unforgettable experience for Kate.

Reuters
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince Harry, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Philip and The Queen on board a tender that once belonged to the Royal Yacht Britannia, The Royal Barge, called the Spirit of Chartwell. The vessel was donated for use at the event by owner Philip Morrell.

A closer look at the Spirit of Chartwell.

Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant
From the Daily Mail

'The boat has been described as a vessel 'fit for a Queen' and has been decorated with nearly 10,000 flowers. It has been transformed in a project led by award winning production designer, Joseph Bennett. Lavishly decorated with replica carvings and sporting a majestic red, gold and purple colour scheme, the vessel's design will echo the richly decorated royal barges of the 17th and 18th centuries. A lavish red, velvet banner decorated with a version of the royal coat of arms made from more than half a million gold coloured buttons hands from the stern'.

It has been widely suggested the Monarchy needs to scale down in order to survive and the seven royals sailing on The Spirit of Chartwell represent the core members, present and future of the British Monarchy.

PA
All senior members of the Royal family are taking part in the event, except the reclusive Duchess of Kent. It is one of the rare occasions the entire family are together.

A look at a map from the event.

London Town
The jubilee has brought a sense of national unity, thousands of street parties are taking place all over Britain. Today the Big Jubilee Lunch was held. The aim of the lunch is to get as many people as possible to have lunch with their neighbours enhancing their sense of community and friendship. People from all 54 countries in the commonwealth were encouraged to celebrate with a jubilee lunch.

A look at the pageant.

Kate looked lovely in a red Alexander McQueen pleated skirt dress. The cutout peplum showcases the A line skirt. The piece is from last years Pre-Fall collection. The dress was available for $2,045. Kate's dress is a custom made piece, lengthened with long sleeves. It is described as

'Rule, Britannia! Regimental uniforms, especially the British Order of the Garter, inspired Sarah Burton's Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2011 collection. Rendered in a vivid red, the exuberantly precise result is sure to delight both new and veteran fans of this British power house'.

Alexander McQueen
I'm delighted Kate chose red for today, not only is it a fabulous colour on her but a nod to the jubilee. It is noticeably similar to the pink Emilia Wickstead dress the Duchess wore to the Sovereign's Luncheon and most recently the Buckingham Palace garden party. The dress has been worn by a number of celebrities including Kim Kardashian (Yes, I never thought we would see Kate wearing the same dress as KK but Kate's is quite different :)) and X Factor judge Tulisa. (With many thanks to Kate Middleton Style)

Kate wore her favourite LK Bennett Sledge shoes. They are currently available for £185.

Kate accessorised with her Kiki McDonough Citrine Drop Earrings. They are available for £495.

Kate carried a tartan scarf made of newly created Strathearn tartan, a nod to her Scottish title 'Countess of Strathearn'. She briefly wore it before she disembarked from the barge.

The Duchess also carried a red and gold version of the McQueen Skull Clutch with Bow (With many thanks to What Kate Wore

It was no doubt a memorable occasion for the Middleton family who sailed on the Elizabethan. Pippa looked absolutely lovely in an Orla Kiely ensemble. Pippa was obviously conscious of looking conservative and not detracting attention from the event with her sartorial choices and she did a wonderful job. Carole Middleton looked sophisticated in a cream dress and jacket. Mike and James opted for classic suits, the family appeared to be in very high spirits throughout the pageant, wonderful to see HM including them.

Daily Mail
The Princes looked very dashing today. Prince William wore his Flight Lieutenant No 1 dress uniform while Prince Harry, a captain in the British army wore the No 1 ceremonial dress of the Blues and Royals and Army Air corps blue beret.

The Queen's outfit was designed by Angela Kelly. The ivory dress and coat decorated with crystals was a year in the planning, perfect for the occasion.

You can watch a video from The Telegraph and The BBC.

It was a simply spectacular day, despite the dismal weather the mood in London and indeed around the world was one of joy and celebration. We are unlikely to see an event like this again for a long time. A wonderful way to celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee.

I'll see you all tomorrow for the Diamond Jubilee Concert :)

Kate Wears Stella McCartney to 'Aiming High Exhibition'

Duchess Kate attended an opening event for The Road to 2012: Aiming High Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery this morning.

Kate arrived in a chauffeur driven car at 9 a.m. and was greeted by dignitaries.

Kate was the guest of honour at the Olympic photography exhibition which documents three years of preparation for the London games. The engagement combines Kate's roles as patron of the National Portrait Gallery and Olympic ambassador. The London Games begin in just over a week and we can expect to see William, Kate and Harry attend many events supporting Team GB from the sidelines.

The newly commissioned photographs of the athletes were taken by renowned photographers Anderson & Low, Nadav Kander and Jillian Edelstein.

National Portrait Gallery
From The Telegraph's review

'Road to 2012 is the biggest photographic commission the NPG has ever undertaken, a three year project reaching its culmination this month to celebrate the festival of running, jumping and diving about to take place seven miles to the east. These are not quick snaps or candid behind the scenes revelations. Anderson and Low shot rowers, swimmers and gymnasts in their training environments to create the formality and feel of a fine art portrait'.

Jim White's review ends with a powerful description of the athletes comparing them to gladiators and warriors:

'Here are the heroes of our time, modern gladiators, serious - minded, determined, unflinching; photographed with a reverence in which, in previous times, warriors might have been recorded ahead of going into battle'.

The women's hockey squad posed for the photo below in November 2011.

Kate viewed footage of a naked David Beckham sleeping shot by Sam Taylor Wood. A difficult job but someone has to do it :) She also viewed the NPG'S Diamond Jubilee Exhibition on The Queen, Art and Image.

Kate also featured in the exhibition herself in a photograph taken at the Team GB hockey event the Duchess attended earlier this year.

Sky News reporter Paul Harrison noted the Duchess was embarrassed when she saw the photo.

Below we see the Duchess looking at it.

The exhibition runs until 23 September and is free daily from 10.00 until 18.00. If you are a lover of the arts and wish to support the gallery you can find information on donating here or take a look at the online shop which sells books, posters, exhibition catalogues, jewellery and portraits. Below we take a look at the Kings & Queens Tablecloth, the Elizabeth II Canvas Tote Bag and the Necklace Camera.

It is Kate's second visit to the gallery this year. The Duchess made her solo debut at the Lucien Freud Exhibition last February where she met guests and staff.

The British Monarchy Flickr

Royal aides have said the Duchess has been looking forward to viewing the exhibition 'immensely' as she is a keen photographer herself. She wrote her history of art degree dissertation on the photography of author, Lewis Carroll. There has been talk of her staging an exhibition in aid of her charities in the future.

Kate looked lovely in the electric blue crepe  Stella McCartney Ridley Stretch Cady Dress from the Fall 2012 collection. The £515 dress is described as:

'A vibrant crepe dress. This simple shift  embodies easy luxury with it's minimalist silhouette  and eye catching bold hue. Concealed zip fastening at back. Round neck, short sleeves, darts at waist'.

Selfridges
I personally love the dress. It's vibrant and youthful yet conservative and elegant. I had thought we would see Kate wear Stella McCartney for some of her engagements as Olympic ambassador (Stella designed Team GB's uniforms) and this dress was an excellent choice. What do you think?

Rebecca English Twitter
Kate wore her Prada pumps.

The Duchess accessorized with the stunning Cartier Trinity Necklace (With many thanks to Karen from WKW FB) Royal aides said it is from her own wardrobe and she thought it appropriate to wear it today given the Olympic theme.

The 18 caeat gold necklace, with paved diamond is 80 cm long and retails for a staggering £49,000. Given the huge price tag I expect it may have been a gift. Perhaps to celebrate Kate's role as Olympic ambassador? It's one of the most beautiful pieces of jewellery we've ever seen Kate wear.

Cartier
Kate completed the look with a pair of gold Swaroski earrings, quite possibly an older version of the $85  Heloise Pierced Earrings. Pippa has been spotted wearing the same earrings in silver. (I must say a huge thank you to Anna from My Small Obsessions who works tirelessly to ID Kate pieces and is always kind enough to let me and the other bloggers know about her discoveries)

The engagement went incredibly well and (for once this summer :)) the sun was shining. Kate was all smiles leaving the gallery....

You can watch an excellent video from the exhibition at The Telegraph.

In other news the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry has been renamed The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. The royal trio are aiming to make the armed forces, young people and conservation their primary areas of focus for the time being. The website is well worth a look with large photos from recent engagements and information on the foundation. The following message from William, Kate and Harry appears on the website

'For reasons that never cease to amaze us, we do seem to be able to bring a spotlight to bear on wonderful initiatives created by other people to help those in need'.

The new website and renaming of the foundation is confirmation William, Kate and Harry will continue to work together as a team. If/When Harry marries his wife will be included in the foundation also.

Richard Palmer Twitter

Judging by the figures I anticipate the royal foundation will be a great success.

We'll finish today's post with a look at another artists impression of Kate from Marie Claire South Africa. There is currently an ongoing debate as to whether the photos are art or using Kate as a clothes horse. The fact she is wearing designers (who stand to profit from the magazine cover) clothes in the mock ups makes me question whether it is appropriate or not. What do you all think?
